The Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) actively took part in the week long Observance of Araw ng Kagitingan and Philippine Veterans Week. This year’s celebration bears the theme: “Balik Tanaw sa Sakripisyo ng Beterano, Gabay sa Landas ng Pagbabago”.
Sunrise Ceremony and Wreath-Laying Ceremonies
Eighty Junior, Senior and Cadet Girl Scouts and Troop Leaders from Makati City and Rizal Councils witnessed the Sunrise and Wreath-Laying Ceremonies on April 5, 2014 at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, Taguig City.
The ceremonies started the celebration of Araw ng Kagitingan and Philippine Veterans Week. The event gave an opportunity to the veterans to honor their fallen comrades through floral offerings at the tombs of the unknown soldiers.
Tribute To All Filipino Heroes
Nine staff from the GSP National Headquarters and eight Girl Scouts and Troop Leaders from Makati City, Mandaluyong City and Rizal Councils took part on the Tribute to All Filipino Heroes on April 7, 2014 at the Filipino Heroes Memorial, Corregidor Island, Cavite.
Hon. Juanito Victor Remulla, Governor of Cavite, gave his welcome remarks and inspirational message while Hon. Eduardo G. Batac, Undersecretary for Civil, Veterans and Reserve Affairs (Department of National Defense) was the Guest of Honor.
Araw ng Kagitingan
Salud A. Bagalso M.D., National President, led the delegation of the GSP during the celebration of Araw ng Kagitingan on April 9, 2014 at Mt. Samat National Shrine, Pilar, Bataan.
Around 800 Girl Scouts and Troop Leaders from nine councils of Central Luzon Region attended the event together with 13 National Headquarters staff.
His Excellency President Benigno Simeon Aquino III was the Guest of Honor. The event commemorated the heroism of the Filipino soldiers who fought valiantly alongside the allied forces in World War II.
Paggunita sa Capas
Sixty-five Girl Scouts and Troop Leaders from Tarlac and Angeles City Councils attended the event together with four staff from the National Headquarters during the Paggunita sa Capas on April 10, 2014 at the Capas National Shrine, Capas, Tarlac.
Hon. Noel L. Villanueva, Representative of 3rd District of Tarlac was the Guest of Honor and Speaker.
A ceremonial wreath-offering and tolling of the bells in remembrance of the Filipino and American soldiers who were part of the Death March were observed, and followed by conferment of medals, plaques and certificates to the veterans.
The weeklong celebration concluded with a “Sunset Ceremony” on April 11, 2014 at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, Taguig City.
Yolanda C. Hernandez, National Secretary, led the delegation of the GSP. Thirty-five Girl Scouts and Troop Leaders from Makati City and Rizal Girl Scout Councils graced the event together with six National Headquarters staff.
