The Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) participated in the Flag Raising and Wreath-Laying Ceremonies during the 116th Philippine Independence Day with the theme “Pagsunod sa Yapak ng mga Dakilang Pilipino, Tungo sa Malawakan at Permanenteng Pagbabago (Following the steps of Filipino heroes, towards permanent and wide-reaching change)” on June 12, 2014.
More than 150 Girl Scouts and Troop Leaders from Manila, Makati, and Pasay City Councils together with Central Luzon Region Executive Director Angelita Manalili and staff and 46 National Headquarter staff attended the celebration at the Luneta Park, Manila.
President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III led the Independence Day celebrations, with a flag-raising ceremony and a speech, at the Plaza Kinse Martires in Naga City.
Vice President Jejomar C. Binay, Sr. along with Manila Mayor Joseph Ejercito Estrada and DFA Secretary Albert F. del Rosario, led Independence Day rites at the monument of national hero Dr. Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda.
Chief Justice Maria Lourdes P.A. Sereno graced the flag ceremony at the Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine, Kawit, Cavite.
Senate President Franklin M. Drilon led the wreath laying ceremony at the Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine in San Juan City.
Other flag-raising and wreath-laying rites were at the Barasoain Church Historical Landmark, Malolos City, Bulacan; Pamintuan House, Angeles City; Mausoleo de los Veteranos de la Revolucion, North Cemetery, Manila; and Bonifacio National Monument, Caloocan City.
