In 1948, the GSP Executive Committee created the Josefa Llanes Escoda Memento Fund Committee with Zenaida Quezon Buencamino, daughter of Pres. Manuel L. Quezon, as its first Chairperson. The purpose of the Committee was to raise funds for delegates to international events.
From 1965 to 1991, National Executive Director Mariquita Castelo was appointed steward of the Fund. Other Chairpersons who handled the Fund Committee include Asuncion Flores, Teresita Choa, Dr. Ligaya Jorge, Fe Llanos, Felicidad Santos, and Dr. Martha Mogol. At present, the Chairperson of the Committee is Yolanda Hernandez, who is concurrently Asst. National Secretary and Central Board member.
The Escoda Memento Fund is a voluntary fund specifically reserved to support the participation of girl and adult delegates of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines in international projects/events. These include exchange programs, training, encampments, regional and world conferences to promote international friendship, understanding and foster peace and harmony among sister Guides and Girl Scouts around the world.
As a Member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) with 145 member organizations, GSP has the privilege to participate in events initiated by this Member-Association.
