Seventy two Junior, Senior and Cadet Girl Scouts, 30 troop leaders, and staff of National Headquarters and councils participated in “Rights. Camera. Action!: Media Summer Camp” of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines in partnership with the Department of Education and the National Council for Children’s Television on May 20-22 2013 at the Helena Z Benitez National Program and Training Center, Tagaytay City.
The workshop’s aim was to cultivate the creative minds of the participants and harness their skills in photography, videography (pre-production, production and post-production) and script writing and the use of these skills as tools to spread awareness on the different issues concerning them and the community. The program also promotes good viewing habit by encouraging parents’ participation in choosing the TV program for their children.
Ten video clips mostly under 60 seconds were conceptualized, written, produced, directed and partly edited and scored by the Girl Scouts and their leaders. All were plotted on environmental issues and climate change such as water conservation, deforestation, energy consumption, and proper waste disposal.
